Sunnunda recipe

Today we gave Neetha a surprise baby shower. Apart from the regular dishes I wanted to make something special for her. It struck me that "Sunnunda", my favorite laddoo growing up, is not only nutritious but also festive looking. So I made some for everyone to enjoy. I kinda improvised the recipe like I would've loved it so this is pretty much an original recipe.

Urad daal 1 cup
Sugar 3/4 cup
ghee 1/2 cup
nuts and raisins 1/2 cup
jaggery 1/4 cup ---can use sugar instead

dry roast the daal until it starts to smell yumm!! :) which means the wetness in the daal is gone. grind to a smooth powder. fry the nuts and raisins in some ghee in a pan and add jaggery towards the end. once the Jagerry melts pour the mixture and the rest of the ghee into the daal powder. mix well and make some round laddoos. Picture attached is the outcome.

In my view for someone who wants to learn to make this laddoo, it might be a good idea to start with a simpler laddu like ravva laddoo. This one takes time to grind to a smooth powder.
Chetna went on bragging that she knew this kind of a laddu but wanted to know how it was made. Reminded me of how she had tried making the ravva laddu and instead got me some paste of the laddoo material, which she did call a laddu :). I felt bad and made some ravva laddoos for her to eat, the next day.

We had a wonderful reunion after a long time. Last big one was for Ritika's 5th b'day.
